The art I grew up seeing rarely centered skin like mine. So part of what these paintings are doing is making the kind of work a younger version of me would have wanted to find.
Every figure in Skin is looking back at you. That's the first thing to notice and once you do, the experience of standing in front of a piece shifts. You aren't just watching them. They are watching you.
Each piece sits with one face, drawn in lines and blended shapes. The focus stays on the skin: its tones, its weight, the light it holds. The rest is quiet. Just a person, looking back.
